Dog Day Afternoon

dress, shoes, watch, purse: vintage
glasses: bonlook

When I throw on this dress (which I have thrown on like 10xs this month alone, its so easy!) I feel like I'm transported to the 70s. August 22, 1972 to be exact. That's the day John Wojtowicz tried to rob a bank in Brooklyn to support his family and dreams. But for most of us it's also a great movie starring Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon. Its literally one of my favorite films, especially for the costumes alone. Everyone looks so sharp, even the criminals! Its sad to say that no one dresses well to leave the house, in fact I'm sure you can probably count how many people are walking around town in their jammies on two hands.

I'm so attracted to the female professional look from yesteryear. From the buxom female reporters of 1940, to the bank tellers of 1970. What happened to power dressing? Did all the magazine I read as a child no longer apply? Now its all louboutins, oxford shirts, and shift dresses to get that promotion. I don't care it all looks the same to me! I want high shoulders, high waist, and high hair! But maybe that's just me.

I guess when your running around in the hazy afternoon fog, Its hard not to be so nostalgic. As for me, I'll just continue to pretend what year it is when I get dressed. Who care what anyone else thinks.

  3. Love that movie and love this dress. It reminds me of something Hillary Clinton would have worn in the 70's, when she was working behind the scene to get her man a job in politics.

  4. Awesome dress. The bold paisley print is definitely nostalgia inducing. Loving the last photograph of you. It looks like it was taken on film.

  11. There's nothing better than just throwing on a dress and being good to go. Totally effortlessly cool - as always. Love the dress, bag, shoes but it's the girl wearing it that makes it work. High five for another great look!

  12. This vintage dress is fantastic and it looks wonderful on you! I love just throwing on a dress in the morning. I don't have to think too much about it if it's a cool dress. This one is 70's-tastic and wonderufl.
