eye scream for ice cream & john ruvin

Last weekend Dave and I collaborated on the story telling photo album for John Ruvin glasses. We wanted to play with a simple his and her story that captivated the warmth and playfulness of summer. Overall it was a super fun shoot, and it was nice to do something different than what I normally do with outfit posts. Sure my outfit was key to the overall theme, sugary pastels that make you think of two scoops of ice cream, but to tell a story was the most important objective in this shoot. Plus it was fun to shoot the man behind the camera as well, and dress him up for the story. I think doing this project for John Ruvin has definitely inspired me and helped me get out of a blogging funk I felt like I was stuck in since the turn of the new year.

Both Dave and I are wearing Prescott by John Ruvin, I have on the Amber Ombre, while Dave went with Traditional Tortoise.

When I was living in New York, I got the opportunity to be apart of CAT footwear Fall 2014 lookbook. I have to say I was super honored, especially to be included with bloggers I admire. I shot these photos in central park on a warm autumn afternoon after church. And believe me I thought I was going to meet my maker. What you don't see is me sneezing pieces of my brain out. I had the worst 3 week long cold and flu, that my roommates said "welcomes everyone when they move to New York" Moving back to Chicago has only been welcomed by beer, donuts, and pizza. I'll take two donuts instead of a 102 degree fever please!

On another note, I actually really love these shoes. They got me through the first half of winter, and keep my feet super warm in all the horrid weather. Plus the grip keeps me from slipping and sliding on the ice. Who new heels can be both super practical and cute! Oh and one more thing, by total accident I realized I dressed EXACTLY like Elaine Benes. HAR HAR

winter wonderland {AVNT BLRGH + FAMILY AFFAIRS}

When Family Affairs contacted me to do with sweet little holiday collab I was absolutely thrilled. I have loved loved loved Family Affairs for the LONGEST TIME, and to have me style one of their classic looks for the holidays, I was excited, then nervous, then just excited again!

I also get super nervous working with brands that I adore, especially ones where I know the designer personally and I know the blood, sweat, and tears that went into each garment. I also want to showcase the clothing along with a little BLARGH twist. I felt like adding this shrunken sweater to this Hollywood Movie Dress, made it a little more spunky and not too sweet. Perfect for parties with the friendsies which may include multiple beer runs, but then remove the sweater add a blazer and your ready for the family dinner. As the weather warms up (soon hopefully) I want to try new styling ideas with this guy, because I'm already in love with it. The colors are classic so it doesn't really scream any particular season, though the red does make it festive. It's flannel and cozy, perfect for wanting to look cute, but not wanting to give a damn in this BRUTAL WINTER we've been having before winter has officially begun!

Like an Art Teacher

one of my favorite things to do year after year is to collaborate with my designer mother for our annual editorial for her company Logan. If you didn't know, my mom is an artist, I grew up in a studio space, and when I was younger I wanted to be "normal" but now that I'm older I love and admire her. If you've seen Tiny Furniture, that's basically my life.

Every year she lets me express my creativity through helping her put together an editorial for her fall/winter line of hats and accessories. It's really fun and I admire my mom so much for being an entrepreneur and appraised local artist. This year, I was feeling a little 90s (last year I was totally channeling Wes Anderson) So we did this 90s meets Advanced Style look. I EVEN WORE A WIG (don't worry loves my hair is still here big and curly!) It was fun to get into character, I even recruited my friend and local chi-town blogger Daina to model as well! It was truly a fun fall day to remember. One thing I recall the most is that in this current look Daina said "You look like an art teacher at Hogwarts!!" which I thought was pretty funny and neat. I've always wanted to grow up to be some kooky artsy lady who wore tiny glasses...and now I finally got to live out my dream!!
